Groups, challenges & collabs

Groups let you bird with others. There are two types, both in the Groups tab inside the Lists screen.

Two types

Private challenge
Each member logs sightings into their own private tally. The group screen shows a leaderboard ranked by species count. Tap any member to open their list. You can run several challenges at once.

Collaborative list
A single shared list everyone contributes to. Only admins' sightings feed into it, and the members view labels them Admin (shares sightings). Making someone an admin starts sharing their sightings; revoking it stops. You can only have one active collaborative list at a time.

If an admin deletes a sighting they've already shared, other members keep their copy.

Groups tab

Open the Lists tab and tap Groups (the third pill). Pending invites, active challenges, and your collaborative list all appear here, along with recently ended groups.

Creating a group

Creating and managing groups needs a connection. Tap New List from the Lists tab or Feed header, then choose Private challenge or Collaborative list under the Group heading. Give it a name and, if you like, start and end dates.

Inviting members

Open the group and tap the members row, search for birders by name, and tap Invite. They get an invite card in their Groups tab showing who invited them, with Join and Decline buttons.

You can't join a second collaborative list while one is already active.

Admin vs member

The group creator starts as admin. Admins can edit the group name and dates, invite and remove members, promote or revoke other admins, end the group, and leave. Non-admins can refresh the group and leave.

Collaborative list dates

Once a collab has started, the start date locks. The end date can only be moved earlier, and only while the collab is active. Both lock once it's ended.

Tap End in the group menu (admin only, needs a connection) to close the group there and then.

Leaving and force sync

Tap Leave Group in the group menu. You're removed straight away, with no confirmation prompt.

Force sync (admin menu, collaborative lists only) re-pulls the latest state from the server. Use it if your copy of the shared list looks out of date.
