Settings

Settings is how the app behaves for you: atlassing, your life list, bird names, exports, data use and your account. What other birders see, your photo, your name and whether your profile is visible at all, is on Edit profile instead.

Open it from the menu at the top left of the Feed, Listing or Areas tab, or from the gear on your profile.

Bird atlas

A single field, Observer ID.

Add your Observer ID to unlock atlassing in Bïndo. Atlas lists are submitted to SABAP2.

If you don't have one, register at birdmap.africa. See Atlassing.

Life list

A single toggle, Auto lifers.

Tags new birds as lifers automatically once you have 200 entries in your life list.

Language

Which language bird common names appear in. Primary language sets the names you see throughout the app. Secondary language is optional and shows a second name where the scientific name usually sits, which is useful if you are learning names in another language.

Names re-download after you save, so give it a moment on a slow connection.

Exports

Two toggles, BirdLasser and eBird.

When a list ends you'll be emailed a file to import into the services you've enabled.

Data

Sync on WiFi only holds everything back until you're on WiFi.

Turn this on to save your mobile data.

Nothing is lost while it waits. The app treats itself as offline on mobile data, so everything that already works offline carries on as normal, and your birds sit safely on your phone until WiFi arrives. When it's waiting, the footer says so.

If a manual sync is available, it appears in the same section.

Sign in on the web

Scan the code on your computer opens the scanner for signing a browser into your account.

Signs a browser in to your account after you approve it.

It needs a connection, and greys out without one.

Account

Three actions.

Reset data
Bïndo syncs in the background. If your numbers look out of step and haven't recovered after a few hours in good signal, Reset data pulls everything down fresh from the server. Needs a connection.

Log out
Signs you out on this device. Sign back in with the same email and method as before. Sightings that look missing after signing in almost always mean a different email, or a different social sign-in (Apple, Google), from the one you originally used.

Delete account
Permanently deletes your account and removes your personal information and identifiable sighting data from Bïndo's servers. You'll be asked to type a confirmation phrase first. Needs a connection.

Remember to tap Save after changing anything here. The one exception is your profile photo, which uploads as soon as you pick it.

Edit profile

Everything on Edit profile is what other birders see. Open it from the Edit profile button on your own profile screen.

Your profile photo, your first and last name, and one toggle, Private profile.

Hides your profile, sightings and lists from others. You can't participate in challenges or area leaderboards while private.

Bïndo asks you to use your real, full name. Private profile can take a little while to take effect everywhere.
